So I need to go LGA-BHM in about a month.

Coach price is $474 non-stop RT. It's a horrible return (6am), but I figure as a PM I can probably SDC to the later flight, or SDC to an ATL connecting flight. U and X fare class.

After purchase, I get an immediate offer for a buy-up to F for $74, RT. Given the expanded opportunities for SDC with F instead of Y, I take it.

Funny thing is, to buy the Y tickets I wanted (with a later departure) would have been more than the $548 total I paid. For that matter, buying F tickets for the flights I purchased would have been more.

I'm not complaining, because I don't own DL stock, but I'm not sure how this makes sense.
