I've traveled throughout Italy with girlfriends and never had any problems. Italian men do tend to be a little more aggressive than perhaps what you're used to, but if you don't return eye contact you're not likely to have any problems. That said, we had lots of fun with the men in Italy - almost no where did we not have men join us for dinner, waiters comp us lots of drinks and food, men hand us money to throw in the fountains, etc. You should have a great time.

Just thought to add that my friends and I do tend to look out for each other when we travel. If one feels uncomfortable with a situation, we all leave.
