Express Connection better than GE?

Last week I had a very tight International to Domestic connection at ORD and I was given an "Express Connection" envelope with my connecting flight BP inside. The UA GA said, "we are going to try to get you to your connection. Instructions are on the back [of the envelope]." I looked at the back of the envelope, and it's just a map of the airport.

I had 25 mins from the time I stepped foot on the jetway to the scheduled departure time of my domestic flight. Even though it was my first INTL arrival at ORD, I decided to stick with GE, since it's something I already know. Trying to figure out Express Connection on the fly seemed like a bigger unknown and more of a risk. No checked bags, GE, TSA Pre, and the good luck to have a domestic gate on the B concourse (B8 even!), I figured I had a real good chance of making it. I made it with 5 mins to spare.

Since I decided to skip Express Connection, I was wondering if it had any advantages over GE? I'm assuming you end up in the same place once you clear customs, waiting for the train to T1.

p.s. Connecting thru BRU is a running disaster due to their runway construction.
