Nobody at Citi/AA who really knows is going to post here, so all we can do is guess. That being the case, my guess would be $$ - Citi and AA haven't been able to agree on the price of the miles or something like that. I don't buy any arguments about not wanting to devalue the co-branded credit cards, since they give benefits that the TY cards don't (free checked bag, priority boarding, Priority Access in the case of the Executive). But I doubt we'll ever really know.
