There was no AC lounge and we were denied in the Star Alliance one. I think the fine print covets AC lounges only.

Since we only had carry-ons I was hoping to use zone 2 boarding. We received zone 5 and the agent had no idea what was even asking about. They sent be back to the line.

I have since contacted the TD via secure message and at first was told to contat Aeroplan, then was told that it is a training issue with Air Canada and finally that I want to take it any further, I should call TD.

Any suggestions? Looks like this is one big mess with empty promises.
Were the Aeroplan tickets redeemed from either your or your spouse's Aeroplan accounts?

The MLL access when flying on an Aeroplan tickets is very restrictive. It is available only to the Primary cardholder flying an Aeroplan ticket redeemed from the Primary cardholder's account.

If you redeem 2 tickets from your account, even though your spouse is also a Primary cardholder, she will not be permitted to enter the lounge because the ticket has not been redeemed from her account.

Yes, it is valid at the MLL only, not Star Alliance lounge. If you have the Privilege card, you could have used one of Airport Angel's lounges.

If the tickets were redeemed from one or both of your accounts, you should be entitled to Zone 2 boarding. If you did not, I suggest to write to Air Canada Customer Care.
