The fact is your are flying two different airlines until they get the systems merged. Until then you are allowed to generate credit on the surviving airline program. Yes, it would have been nice if they could have picked a single date and have everything switched over with a flick of a switch, they didn't.

Until this process is complete, judicious shopping is in order. Being two different systems there is a possibility pricing will be different. Checking both AA.com and USAirways.com for prime flight pricing (and codeshares if cost is the real issue) may get you what you want. I'm sure we will see more issues surface as we get closer to the cutover. As they suggest on the planes, keep your seatbelt fastened while seated...
