Keep this in mind regarding beans.. they are good sources of vegetable protein BUT, they must be combined with a complementary protein to become a complete protein containing the nine essential amino acids. Beans and Lentils, when combined with nuts, seeds, rice or grains fulfill the requirement of a complete protein. Also, beans such as pintos, northerns, limas, etc are very starchy and thus have higher carbohydrates. Obviously, soy products such as Tofu are a good option. If you're not a vegetarian but just don't eat much meat (my daughter is one of these), you can get your protein in dairy products, eg. eggs and cheese. For me, a boiled egg and a cube of cheese realy steadies out my cravings for carbs..
