Very interesting, although having such a rule could of itself lead to a form of get there itis if the flight crew try and land at second attempt when maybe they should have initiated a GA precisely because they knew that otherwise they would have to divert. Ultimately as a passenger I appreciate the professionalism of the crew and the focus on safety and if that means repeated GA's or diversions then so be it.

I've experienced a go around due to traffic on runway at LGW, a go around at VIE on OS (ages ago on an MD82) due to warning indication and a rather exciting touch and go at LCY on Citijet due to changing winds. On each occasion the second attempt was successful.

Funnily enough, I have never had a GA at LHR.
