[B If I DO feel threatened, I actually do call my husband or a friend, explain where I am and that I just "missed" them - which is a prearranged code for "stay on the phone w/ me - something spooky's happening".. I give my rough location and as much information as possible.. just as Punki suggested.. in the context of "normal" conversation.. e.g. "oh, where am I? Let's see - right now I'm in yellow cab # xx and we're on the corner of x and x, heading toward the Hilton on x"..

we have the same kind of prearranged signals for either one of us to use - which wound up being quite funny one time when mr. squeakr had met a lost backpacker type on his way home from work, and was trying to ask me what cheap hotels were in the neighborhood, using our "type" of talk about where he was etc. I assumed he was being robbed and was about to call the police when he caught himself and explained he was OK...

I am also lucky that there are a number of shuttles downtownat hotels that can get me to the airport quickly. I sometimes do that coming back - take the shuttle to the Hyatt Regency and then cab it home. I'd MUCH rather deal w/ SF cabs in town than at the airport..
