SNA Confirmed and then downgraded at check-in. No Refund. Thoughts?
I am currently at the Le Meridien in Nice, France. It is my 4th/5th stay here as I frequently use the Nice Airport as my entry/exit point from this area.
Since I'm familiar with the rooms and the hotel, when electing to use a SNA on this stay I knew exactly which room was worth using the award and which I'd likely receive as a Platinum anyway. In quick descriptions, the following 3 rooms were avail for potential SNA upgrade:
1. Panoramic View room Jr. Suite with 45M Balcony
2. Sea View Room Jr. Suite with 22M Balcony
3. Sea and Garden View Room Jr. Suite with 45M Balcony.
Note: The rooms are priced this way as well (Panoramic the most expensive etc).
I choose ONLY #1 the Panoramic view as I've always received #2/3 anyway and I don't feel are worth the SNA award.
I received email confirmation 5 days before my stay that my SNA had gone through and I had been upgraded to the Panoramic View Jr. Suite.
Upon checking in I was told that only a Sea View Room Jr. Suite was available and that the Panoramic View Rooms had all been booked. I'm not a person who likes to cause a scene, so I calmly said that I understood, but that I expected they would refund my SNA award. I was told that I had received a Jr. Suite and that it was considered an "upgrade" category and that there was nothing they could do. I explained I had been given 3 options and had only chosen the first etc etc. To no avail.
My question for the board (Specifically for those who have used SNA upgrades before) is do i have a beef? Should I be getting the SNA back? Before I take the time to write SPG an email, I thought I'd get some opinions.
Cheers
