It's not unusual. Also for North Flight Connection section (whereas landside North Fast Track almost always is faster), but for South landside there's an awful lot of status travellers that pile through in the morning, while there isn't so much non status traffic at that time. Fares for the European short hop services are high at that hour, so that skews the travel profile accordingly. So at South in particular it's always worth a peek to the left before trying right. The HAL staff tend to be fairly helpful if asked nicely. North Fast Track is easier to check anyway, since you have to walk alongside slow track to get to the end channel.
This is supposed to be improved in the next few months when the separate Gold and First entrance is finished at South.
