Possible to escape KLM Unaccompanied Minor Service before final destination?
I am flying with KLM, which has a required Unaccompanied Minor Service all the way through age 14. Paying the $75 fee is bad enough, but I have an even bigger problem. To take advantage of a flight deal, although my final destination is Barcelona, I am flying into Berlin, with a stopover in Amsterdam.
Therefore, my plan would be to get off in Amsterdam, skipping the final leg, and get on a separate cheap flight to Barcelona, where my parents will pick me up. However, KLM policy declares it will only deliver the minor to the authorized person, so they officially would not allow me to leave the flight early.
Now my question is whether this is true in PRACTICE. Obviously, the official policy doesn't allow ANYBODY to skip a final leg of a flight, but people can do it with impunity, since there is nothing left to cancel. So what would happen if
1) Less likely - I simply walk away from the escort without saying anything and go to my Iberia gate? Will they call security, mount a big search?
2) More likely - Upon arrival in Amsterdam, I say to my escort, "My parents had to go to Barcelona suddenly, there is no one to pick me up in Berlin anymore, so I have purchased a new flight with Iberia." Will they physically detain me? Can they really stop me?
