I have done this routinely for years because my travel plans change. Fly into a hub and then buy another ticket to some other location and skip the connecting flight. Not a peep. I think the reality is they do not care.
Checked bags may be another matter. As stated have them checked by another member of your family.
I just wanted to say it is a ever so slightly above a non-zero chance. It is theoretically possible however improbable.
The OP is more likely to win the lotto, while simultaneously being struck by lightning and stung by a bee than for DL to come after you for a one off but my luck is I say "It 100% will not happen" it would be the first time in history the OP get's popped on the first time.
