Your other options are BA or EY to earn AA miles. CX and EY are both great so you can't go wrong with either. The route you mention though DFW to HKG is on AA not CX. CX doesn't fly to DFW. You're better off connecting to CX in LAX or connecting to EY in IAD or JFK.
