I agree with Serfty, og and Blackcloud. I fly MEL-SYD-MEL in J very often. I marvel at the ability of the cabin crew to serve an almost always perfectly palatable meal within an hour, with a smile and a couple of wine refills. I actually think there's an improvement in domestic J class meals on the MEL-SYD run in the last 12 months or so. I've often been offered from 3 choices (a hot main, soup or salad).
This week on a dinner flight I had beef massaman curry with rice, sourdough bread and key lime pie for pudding. The red wine was fine. I had a drink and some antipasto in the business lounge before I left. It was all perfectly fine.
This week on a lunch flight I had a chicken and pasta salad with kale and a pesto dressing. It was a little on the small side, but I wasn't hugely hungry and with a slice of sourdough, and a very nice little carrot cake with coffee, it kept me going. If I'd been reall hungry I could have had a toasted sandwich in the lounge before I left too.
And speaking of toasted sandwiches, that is my favourite innovation in recent years. There's never any time of the day or night when a toasted ham/cheese/tomato (or any combination thereof) sandwich isn't appropriate!
