This is news to me, but explains why I never got points for my stay in Madrid.
And I made my reservation over the phone! At no time was I told that I don't qualify for points or anything of sorts.
Because it's budget (and I have no status) I wouldn't expect many points compared to a reg Ibis or Novotel, but something. Sort of how Air Canada gives you 25% of points for the cheapest Y fare, vs. the higher priced fares, and that makes total sense.
Accor already does this: different brands earn at different levels, so you earn fewer points at an Ibis compared to a Mercure/Novotel, and even more at Sofitel/MGallery. This is clearly stated on the Accor website, pretty clear you haven't read what you signed up to!
I get that you get less points according to the brand but I remember when I booked over the phone being told I would get points and that points are always included as long as you book directly in some capacity.
Still as it's been pointed out, it's not exactly clear.
