FWIW, most good hotel concierges have a nice set of TSA0xx keys in their drawer/office and are more than willing to help out with these sort of issues.
If the lock cylinder is in an odd position, you should be able to take the pointy end of a nail file or a couple of paperclips and rotate it back into its proper position. That said, I thought those locks were supposed to hold the key captive until it's in the proper "home" position.
