I don't think LX would sell a C class ticket for a flight that only offers Y class - thus I suppose the £500 ticket must have been a full fare Y.

These tickets have certain advantages, such as maximum flexibility and no minimum stays whatsoever. But they come at a price, especially on a monopoly route such as BHX-BSL. LX does that because they know that people buying full fare tickets have no other choice (Ryanair and easyjet are no viable alternative to full fare pax), and thus pay as much as required. Every other airline does the same. It's called yield managment.

The idea that somebody paying full fare Y should get a service different from somebody flying in V class is a bit weird don't you think? (Imagine the FA asking for the boarding pass to determine if somebody's eligible for free coffee!) After all, if you can afford £500 for a plane ticket, an extra £2 for a cup of coffee don't make much of a difference, do they?
