Wouldn't it be nice if Lufthansa offered some kind of a "defection deal" to SWISS customers who are not drawn to the EC program ?
Matching of status and miles would be ideal, but I would settle for status and 50% of my STC miles...
That way, they could still grasp a large chunk of the Swiss market without having to buy SWISS.
