You can absolutely forget about status with BA if you are travelling mostly or exclusively in discounted economy class. BA makes no apologies for this approach, as it says it wants to target only high yielding passengers, and offer lower fares instead of FF points/miles to discount economy travellers.
BA's programme doesn't suit my flying pattern (50%+ discount economy but also some business/full fare economy travel with work), so I am a member of LH Miles and More.
I use Aadvantage for oneworld miles, as this tends to be more generous than BA on discounted fares on other OW carriers (the 25% still applies to BA though).
