Plus it avoids the expectation/hope of being surprised in a similar way on all future trips.
A friend of mine has a husband who is fond of pulling last minute surprises on her. I'm pretty sure he has no clue that now she often hopes there's going to be a surprise only to find it's not so this time.
I suppose it’s a parallel to people who get a few opups and then start to hope it's a regular thing and end up feeling faintly disappointed to travel in the cabin for which they've paid.
Not an issue for the OP's situation, of course, but maybe food for thought for those fond of giving surprises.
