I definitely understand the profit-sharing JV motive, which is why I feel skeptical that DL would re-book even one segment on CI or KE. I feel somewhat reassured that DL did re-book one person on KE, but perhaps they take care of premium cabin or elite customers better.
My concern is not about arriving too late to NRT. As I have only a 50 minute connection in DTW, I am concerned about missing the DTW-NRT flight and being stranded at DTW. Perhaps all will turn out well, but I usually like to prepare contingency plans in advance.
In this case, I can't find all DL-metal routing departing after the 9:10am IAH-DTW flight. As discussed above, if DL declares IRROPs early enough, I might be able to switch to the earlier IAH-SLC-SEA-NRT routing, but if IRROPs happens later, I will probably be SOL. Hence my question regarding CI and KE options.
