BA miles will cost you a small fortune -- in both Avios and surcharges -- if you redeem for J travel, especially now that J costs 3X the Avios as an Economy redemption.
Are you a member of AAdvantage? If not, join today for free at aa.com. If you have not found suitable flights in 30 days, hope that AA is again running a sale on AAdvantage miles, and hope that you can find award availability, as outlined in Post # 7. I'd be very surprised if you can find a one-way J ticket TYO-WAS for around the $1,300 it would cost you to buy AA miles and redeem for an award (assuming that you can find award availability).
