Golden Gate Park is a fun place to explore beyond the Academy of Science ( which I love). You'd need a car to go very far in Marin, but there are great hikes there. You can pick up a trail guide. There are flat hikes around lakes (Bon Tempe and Lagunitas are close to each other).
