Booked an award ticket for 3 of my family members but not me (A3*G but no status with UA) prior to 4/15 and they were seated in E+ as they were eligible for it back them. However, I called in to request a special meal for one of them yesterday and today noticed that they are now all in E- middles separated many rows apart and UA wants me to pay ~$500 to seat them back where they originally were. Is it possible that the phone agent who I requested special meals with quietly changed their seats? Is it now UA policy that if an agent sees people seated in E+ on a pre-4/15 ticket that they should be moved to whatever E- seats are available?
Is this an international flight? Didn't realize you can request special meals in coach.
