Oh dear, was it really that which brought that plane down? I'll never forget it, and being scared of MD11s for quite some time after. It was so surreal, the infallible Swissair splashed across every newspaper in San Francisco while I was there. I had actually chosen AF and LH as my carrier for my SFO trips that year, because I was disgruntled with the poor SR service at that time. By the way, are MD11s statistically unsafer than other planes?
