I tried with my USAA MC recently at Tesco and Asda (Walmart). USAA MCs try signature first, and then if that isn't available, do online PIN. The pumps rejected the card completely. They worked fine inside, but kicked out a signature slip which caused a lot of confusion. One cleark couldn't fins a pen, the other said she hadn't see signature cards in years. Neither verified the signature.

Interestingly enough, the London Underground kiosks accepted my card. Although it prompted for a PIN, the transaction was treated as no verification. I got a txt from USAA asking me to confirm that I had indeed topped up my Oyster card.
