I think this was proposed before (somewhere around 2009 and in the first 300 pages of this massive thread) and the decision was to leave it the way it is.

Nobody wants to make this easier because the people who spend time to read and comprehend the process know that it can be somewhat simple once you know what to look for.

However, as a newbie, it would be nice to know around what year (or page) the old tricks stopped working and new methods developed. I've been chipping away at this for a week now in my spare time and picked up on the old basics but I have no idea if those tricks from late 2009/early 2010 still work. (When I have tried they haven't seemed to but that could be because I'm still very new at this)
