As a hotel guest, based on what I've experienced staying in Sheratons in both the US and China/Japan, I can answer "yes".

You can also experience this on the flight when there's a mixed crew of AFA and foreign crews. The former will gossip and read Us magazine while the latter will actually go up and down the aisle, taking care of passengers.
