I am European, have spent a lot of time in the US and have been living in Asia for the last 3 years.

- First if all, I don't think you can generalise 'Asia' into one bucket. India vs Thailand vs Vietnam vs Singapore vs China vs Japan have big differences

- Quality of the same brand in terms of hard product is typically much better in Asia due to being newer, E.g. Give me the four points Bangkok over a US sheraton any day.

- language issues can dilute the best intentions and efforts of customer service in some countries in Asia. When you need to repeat your room service order 4 times it can be frustrating.

- in some countries in Asia, hotel workers come from poorer backgrounds, and whilst that may mean they will work extra hard and make every effort, they sometimes also find it hard to understand the needs and the customs of the travellers. One bug bear of mine across Asia is where you eat in nice places and waiters wait and take away your plate as soon as they can (mid meal). They mean well and want to add value, but they are not used to eating in a restaurant setting and may not understand the customs of such a meal and to let people finish etc. In the US most hotel workers would have stayed in hotels and eaten in restaurants as well, hence can better associate with the travellers customs
