I went through the same exercise and found the "domestic" bags were too tall for some European carriers while the "international" bags were too wide for certain American carriers.

I decided to trade capacity for certainty and went down a size to the Briggs and Riley Commuter. It has never been challenged and with a full-size personal item lap top bag along with some creative packing they can handle a 5 day business trip.

My Commuter is a roller but they are available as a spinner too.
