bgriff, thank you for the update. If I use KLM (and they sound better than DL for economy comfort), then I'll certainly use their web site.
Do an advanced search on Delta.com and select the Y or higher option. That should show you only Y-class fares. 3K for an economy fare, even an upgradeable one, is not worth it, IMO, unless you can secure an upgrade immediately. Your best option is to give Delta a call and see what they can do for you.

There's a difference between being cheap and being smart. In your case, it's the latter
