Can't help you with the seat assignments as I have only flown LAN in First and Business. On those flights, I have had no problem with seat assignments well in advance.

As for the Easter Island flights, they are operated as a two-class service albeit on a three class aircraft. Unfortunately, however, business class will include both the business and first class seats, so as an economy passenger, you will not be able to sit there. This is different than when AA operates a two-class service with a three class aircraft.

This is different from August 2001 then.
I traveled Santiago-Easter Island on LanChile using AA miles in Aug 2001. The plane was a 3-class 763, sold as 3-class. I was able to get an 1st class award seat, which cleared for 1st class outbound, but was in business for the return. The return cleared into first class at the airport.

First class is extremely nice on LanChile!!

Have a great time on Easter Island. I loved my 9 days there.
