Well, the good people of Toledo again get what they deserve. I grew up there, so I have an understanding as to the mentality.
That city has been in a state of decline since the 50's. They constantly seek out "white knights" to redeem the place, but the locals won't support them, forcing them out. Then, they complain all the more. They had a festival marketplace in the 80's, very nice (next to the Wyndham downtown). It went out of business in a few years, nobody would support it.
Airtran is the latest in a pattern. Obviously, the good citizens of Toledo chose to use Delta if they wanted to go to Atlanta; believe me, there are a lot of well-heeled Toledoans, with a healthy business community. But, as in typical Toledo style, they placed all of their eggs in one basket (Airtran) to boost their airport. Too bad they didn't make it worth Airtrans' while, and it gave their little airport some lower fares while Airtran was in town. And then, the local paper whines about yet another demise, and they blame it on deregulation (and Reagan of all things). This is one seriously messed up place.
