I just finished a one night stay here. As a plat I was upgraded to a heritage Astor suite from my booked heritage room.
The suite consisted of an office (large desk with a bookcase), vestibule, bathroom and bedroom. The office was fairly small but the bedroom was a good size and had a four poster bed. The bathroom was nothing special with a combined tub/shower.
A large veranda was also accessible from the room that I believe was shared with the room next door. There isn't much of a view from the veranda due to the trees that surrounded but it would be a pleasant place to relax.
I believe that they have a happy hour but I arrived quite late so I missed out on that. Breakfast is provided to plats and is the buffet in their restaurant. It is a good spread as one would expect from most Asian *W properties.
I visited the museum and it was good way of wasting an hour. As the poster above mentioned, it is the #1 tourist attraction in Tianjin. I agree with him that this is a reflection of the lack of activities in Tianjin rather than a ringing endorsement of the museum.
I also stayed a night at the St. Regis and would have to say that I prefer the modern conveniences of the room at the St. Regis. The history at the Astor is impressive though and would be worth a night's stay if you find that interesting.
