This was one of my original thoughts - you can't tell what your travel agents sell you or even what you arrange for yourself. You get a DL ticket and find yourself on an LY metal with tightened security around you. You want a cheap LON-NYC flight and you find yourself on an arab airline. Not everyone understands what codeshares are and that YYZ-LAX is not only done by Canadian or American carriers, or LON-NYC by American or British.

I don't believe LY will automatically deny check-in for any pax with unfriendly passport. Those people might not even make it to the check-in counter ...
