So I booked a return ticket MSP-AMS-DEL for a trip in July. For both KLM flights I got non preferred middle seats (no aisle nor window). When I tried to see the seat map by going in to the KLM web site using my Delta booking (1st July) it did not show me the seat map with a message I can try 3 days before flying. So I decided to do a pseudo booking for the same flights on KLM and see if I could pick seats. To my surprise when I went through the process of booking the same itinerary I saw some 40 seats empty including comfort, preferred etc and even a few aisle seats in regular seating at the back of the aircraft.
So my question is how should I go about at least getting an aisle seat. Should I use the Delta Platinum line or call KLM. I have no problem paying for a comfort economy seat on KLM. In the future should I make my booking on KLM web site instead of Delta web site?

First things first, you need to go to checkmytrip.com to find out what your actual seat assignments are. The ones on DL.com are notoriously wrong for AF/KL metal.
Checkmytrip.com is a front-end system for Amadeus, which both AF and KL use as a back-end system. Since you've looked up your itin at KLM.com, it appears that you've already gotten your KL reference number, which is actually an Amadeus record locator. Use this same ref # at checkmytrip.com.
I've always had decent success with seat selection at airfrance.us for any KL or AF metal trip. As I said, both AF and KL use Amadeus, so I've found airfrance.us to work equally well with seat selection on both. Again, try the same reference # to locate your reservation at airfrance.us.
