I'd do it from SFO if I had 2-3 days notice to set up hotels and maybe a sidetrip by air once there - right now the lowest AA fares to HKG, in the $700 range, don't kick in until after September. Would save me giving up 70,000 miles for a RT economy award over the summer.

The one thing that is unclear is whether this $250 fare would offer elite qualifying miles. What's the take there? Can they block those on heavily discounted (mistake) fares?
