We should vote with our feet and not accept this lying down. Yes, I understand the airlines will possibly gang up and all move to HD configs, but until they do, let us encourage the ones giving us a bit more breathing space.
DL is buying more A330s, which still have 18" Y seats. AA's 777's will still have MCE 18" wide seats, so we do have a choice for long haul travel.
