with regard to your question, i've heard good things about BR--->CO, even on BR flight numbers; paper tickets are suggested.

for AA, you need to ride on a codeshare which usually rules out consolidators and almost always precludes one from booking ED. (without ED, there's nothing special about BR).

BR miles themselves are pretty much worthless.
