Upper Class is just a nice name for the pathetic class of service they used to call "Dynasty" on the BKK-AMS sector. CI introduced the newer 744s (14F, 64C, 319Y) a few years ago with much improved seating. However, they never bothered to upgrade some of their older 744s (18F, 93C, 300Y). The older configuration has poor seat pitch, and some of them don't even have PTVs. I had the "pleasure" of traveling on one of those older planes last August when they still called it Dynasty class, and I was very upset because there was a world of difference between the newer and older seats. I guess enough people complained to CI about it that they renamed it to "Upper Class" instead of calling it a business class product.

From my understanding, "Upper Class" passengers are seated in the crappy "Dynasty" class seats on those older planes, while only getting economy class catering. CI has elimiated First Class on the BKK-AMS sector and instead will offer those seats to the business class passengers.
