All of our children have shortened/nick names of their proper names. I cannot tell you how many times my wife has booked flights* in the names by which we call them (which in at least one case is a bit of a stretch from what is in the passport), and we have never ever had any sort of issue or problem. This sort of thing happens thousands of times every day...please don't stress.
