JAL and JALways feature 32-34 inches of legroom on all of its aircraft operating into Hawaii. Boeing 767 features a bit less, and the classic Boeing 747 actually has the full 34" of legroom. Unfortunately, you won't get the PTV, like the mainland USA to Japan flights.

In terms of J, JAL features a more regional business class product, with basically 45-50" of legroom. On both B767, Classic Boeing 747 (200/300), and DC-10, please brace for the less desirable 45" legroom, and if you are on the Boeing 747-400, you will get the 50" legroom.

If I remember correctly, there is only one JAL daily flight between HNL and NRT that features first class (full flat seats, no suites or fancy stuffs).

Well, both Northwest and United offer a more superior business and first class products at this case. United has the F suites for the HNL-NRT and soon HNL-KIX flights. It does not make sense for UAL to convert a few Boeing 777 just for this leisure routes. However, Northwest has converted a few Boeing 747-200s into less J class seats and more Y class configuration. But the seat pitch remains the same for both J and Y.
