Is it the case that I should be allowed to standby for an earlier flight for free if my flight is significantly delayed (i.e. my 10 PM flight is delayed until midnight so I standby for a 9 PM flight)? I always thought this was the case, but an ORD gate agent is adamant that free standby is only possible for elites.
