Cameras aren't light either - unless your 'solution' is to use a camera phone. What goes into the bag is based on what's required, not assumptions on what people should carry.

My suggestion to you: don't buy a MacBook Air. A MacBook Pro ... maybe. Air? Never.
What you consider decent specs is up to you. But there are light Thinkpads as well.

ThinkPad X 2.87lb (1.30kg)
MacBook Pro 3.48lb (1.58kg)
MacBook Air 2.96lb (1.35kg)

So Windows user or Mac user... anyone using the my laptop weighs a ton excuse is simply not valid.

And for all the business travelers, ever heard of laundry service at the hotel? You don't need to pack 7 dress shirts for a 5 day trip.

Try the 10kg challenge... you'll realize how liberating it can be! :P
