Will a Delta FA serve you your own alcohol?

I was on a Jet Blue flight recently and somebody brought their own alcohol. I always thought that you can't drink alcohol that you carried on yourself.

He handed it to the FA who served it to him. I asked him an he said it is completely allowed. So I looked it up:

You may bring wine, champagne or beer on a flight for consumption during the flight if it is in an unopened container. If you’d like to drink the alcohol you carry on, you may give it to one of our Inflight crewmembers, and they will be happy to serve it to you

Was wondering if Delta had this policy. I can't find anything on it.

EDIT: and while I appreciate speculation and know what the rules say, I guess what I am asking is if anybody has actual tried and been declined or succeeded.
