The SA lounges are still what most airline lounges started out as: private waiting rooms with a snack. They have not followed the trend to go more and more upmarket. I personally don't mind that much, for me the lounge is a place to wait for the next flight in relative comfort, but I know that - certainly on FT - I am part of a small minority.
But you should prepare yourself for a lounge that is substandard to current levels when using an SA operated lounge, especially from a food and drink point of view.
