What's your BA pricing point?
Spent far too much time today looking for flights from the UK to Kuala Lumpur in September. I thought I'd share this as a lot of posters seem to be purely price-sensitive, saying BA is not worth any premium at all. I ended up booking BA CW ex Dublin for £1,570 plus Ryanair BHX-DUB for £61 (in their "Bus+ fare" to get 20kg luggage, priority boarding, allocated seat 1A and flexibility on day of travel).
Easiest for me would have been Emirates from BHX - about £2,100 return and they'd even pick me up in a Merc from my apartment. But, I think, when am I going to use Skywards miles, and what use is EK status to me?
AF wanted £1,750 via Paris but I'm not an AF fan.
But then I looked ex-AMS and I could have got TK J for £970! Now, I've never really fancied TK - I have to confess to finding their ability to crash quite disconcerting and their reputation for onboard service isn't stellar. I then discovered my flight would be on an A330-200 with angled J seats so thought it's a definite "no".
EK J was £1,300 including 2 sectors on the A380 but again I thought given the £250 price difference to BA, the Avios are worth it to me. I like EK J.
So I ended up back on BA. As I see it, their F lounge at LHR is better than the EK J lounge at DXB or at BHX, I know what the hard product will be - chance of an equipment change is low, and I like the window seats on the 777 - with the divider up I find it far more private than EK where you feel like you're lying right next to somebody.
So, for me it seems, BA is worth £600 difference compared to TK. All the more when I found they wanted £1,300 for a WTP return from London or £700 odd for Traveller. I wouldn't pay that, but I have paid £1,600 for J.
Am I mad or is this good value?!
