AA may or may not check the bags through. The agent should not, but might. If you call and ask, you will be told no. Therefore, you must plan on a "no" and be pleasantly surprised if it's a "yes".

I'm not sure that just showing up at the gate at SIN with your bags on the carousel waiting to be picked up, is going to work particularly well.

Given the timing, I would pack light and carry on.
I guess that's the biggest issue of all, that any error made that results in me not getting my bags means that the airline isn't going to take responsibility likely even if they made an exception and checked them through. The rules wouldn't be on my side.
