The ATL club is what used to be the DL int'l lounge. When the "midfield" ATL terminal opened in 1980, Concourses E and F did not exist. Int'l flights operated from the north half of the T concourse (the southern half hadn't been built yet, either).
It's far better than the hovel on Concourse D that the club formerly occupied.
As for the usefulness of clubs, to each his own but I've been a club member since 1988. My employer has never reimbursed the membership and I pay out of pocket. I work on the road and in my experience getting work done, participating in conference calls, etc from concourse restaurants and gate seating areas is just not workable. I couldn't care less about the status of being a club member, what kind of alcohol is offered, etc.
